Supervertaler

Terms of Use

The short version

  • The plugins for Trados and memoQ are free for 14 days, then need a subscription. One licence covers both plugins, for one person, on up to two computers.
  • AI makes mistakes, including ones that read well. Check everything it produces before you deliver it: the translation you hand over is yours.
  • You choose the AI provider, use your own account with it and pay it directly. Make sure your clients allow their texts to be sent there.
  • Your documents, termbases and memory banks are yours. They stay on your computer, and stay usable if your subscription ends. Keep backups.
  • We fix the problems we are told about, but cannot promise the software is free of faults. Beyond what the law guarantees, our liability is limited to what you paid in the last 12 months.
  • If you are a consumer, nothing here takes away your legal rights.

1. About these terms

Supervertaler is made by Michael Beijer, a translator in Hastings, United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). These terms are the agreement between you and us for using:

“The software” means all of them. You accept these terms by installing or using the software, starting a trial or activating a licence. If you do not accept them, please do not use the software.

The source code of each product is published on GitHub under its own licence, which governs what you may do with the code itself. The plugins' source-code licence says that using them for real work needs a licence from us: these terms are that licence. Workbench's source code is under the MIT licence, and nothing in these terms limits the rights that licence gives you.

How we handle data is described separately, in the privacy policy.

2. The free trial

The first time you use a plugin on a computer, a 14-day free trial starts by itself, with every feature included. No sign-up or payment card is needed. There is one trial per computer, shared by both plugins.

Please do not try to restart or extend the trial, for example by reinstalling, deleting its records or changing the computer's clock. If you need more time to decide, ask us – we are happy to help.

3. Your licence

While your subscription is paid, we give you a personal, non-exclusive licence to use both plugins, with every feature, including features added later.

You may not:

The free tools need no licence key.

4. Subscriptions, cancelling and refunds

Subscriptions are sold by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. Lemon Squeezy is the seller of the subscription: it takes the payment, charges the right VAT and issues invoices, under its own buyer terms. These terms cover your use of the software.

If the price is a stretch for you, a reduced rate is available: get in touch.

5. AI features: what you are responsible for

The software brings no AI service of its own. It connects to an AI provider you choose – such as OpenAI, Anthropic or Google, a service you set up yourself, or a model running on your own computer – using your own account and API key. Your use of that provider is governed by your agreement with it, not by us.

Check what the AI produces

AI output can be wrong in ways that are hard to spot: a mistranslated term, a changed number, a sentence left out or added, a misplaced tag, or a text that reads well but means something else. The software's checks help, but they do not catch everything. Review AI output before you deliver it, file it or rely on it. This matters most where an error has consequences – legal, medical, financial or patent texts, for example. The translation you deliver is your work and your responsibility, however it was produced.

Confidentiality

Using a cloud AI provider sends the text you work on to that provider. Before you do, make sure your clients' instructions, your confidentiality agreements and the law allow it – including data protection law, if the text contains personal data. If they do not, use a model on your own computer, or do that work without AI. We never receive the text: see the privacy policy.

AI costs

Your AI provider bills you directly for what you use. Cost figures shown in the software are estimates; your provider's bill is what counts, and it can be higher. We recommend setting a spending limit with your provider.

AI assistants

If you connect an AI assistant, such as Claude Desktop or ChatGPT, to the Supervertaler MCP Server, it can read your open projects and, when you ask it to, change segments, comments, termbases, translation memories and memory banks. It acts on your instructions, under its provider's terms. Review what it changes.

6. Your work and your data

7. Trados Studio, memoQ and other software

The plugins run inside Trados Studio and memoQ, which you license separately, from RWS and from memoQ, under their own terms. Supervertaler is independent: it is not made, endorsed or supported by either company, and Trados and memoQ are trademarks of their owners. A new version of Trados Studio or memoQ can stop a feature working until we update the plugin. We work to keep up, but cannot promise that every feature will work with every future version.

The software includes open-source components, which are licensed under their own terms.

8. What we promise

We build Supervertaler with care and fix the problems we are told about. We cannot promise that the software will be free of errors, will run without interruption, or will suit every purpose.

If you are a consumer, you have legal rights when digital content is faulty or not as described – in the UK under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and under similar laws elsewhere. Nothing in these terms affects them.

Otherwise, and as far as the law allows, the software is provided “as is”, without any warranty or condition that is not written in these terms.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow to be limited.

If you use the software for your work, as most translators do, then as far as the law allows:

If you are a consumer, we are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable.

10. Ending the licence

Sections 5, 6, 8, 9 and 12 continue to apply after the licence ends.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when the software or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change matters to you, we will tell you at least 30 days before it takes effect – in the software, or by email if you have a subscription – and for subscribers it takes effect from the next renewal after that. If you do not agree, you can cancel before then. Using the software after a change has taken effect means you accept it.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales may hear any dispute. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may also bring a claim in your local courts.

If something goes wrong, please tell us first: most problems are solved by an email.

13. Contact
